Morning of Worship – Week 5
May 14, 2023

Opening Song – Firm Foundation (He Won’t) – Brantley

Bryan:

Good morning, Brookwood! I’m Bryan Jones, one of the pastors here at Brookwood. We’re so glad to have you join us onsite and on our online campus.

As always, you can scan the QR code on the front of your Program or on the screen to take next steps, ask for prayer, or connect with us.

We’ll also have the opportunity to worship together through giving, using the same QR code, our online links, or here in the room.

Today at Ministry Spotlight, we’re featuring World Relief Upstate SC. These folks partner with local churches to welcome refugees from across the world as they settle in Greenville and Spartanburg counties. Beginning today, you can bless a family by meeting some of their basic needs.

Stop by Ministry Spotlight for details on how you can help welcome our new neighbors as they settle into the Upstate.

For everything else at Brookwood, check out Featured Events in your Program, the website or the Brookwood Church App.

Love God, Love People is our mission and our ministry. [Reference message series?]

Mark 12:28–31 (NLT)—28 One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

29 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”

  1. Our hearts relate to our wills and commitments.

The most important part of our faith is that our hearts have been transformed.

This morning is your heart…

Dead                    Distracted                          Dry                        Devoted

  1. Our souls relate to our affections and emotions.

Music is the language of the soul. Worship is the way we show love to God with our souls.

Psalm 103:1-3 (NASB)—Bless the LORD, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits; Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases;

Song 2 – Sing His Praise Again – Cassidy

Song 3 – Goodness of God – Carly, with tag of 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord) – Jacob

Bryan:

  1. To love God with our minds means we learn to love with our intelligence and thoughts.

Loving God with our minds isn’t thinking affectionately about God, it’s thinking like God.

  1. To love God with our strength means to love God with our muchness, or all our resources.

Loving God with our strength means we give regularly.

Offering Prayer – Bryan

Offering SongTake My Life – Jacob

[Perry:]

When we love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, it transforms us, creating Christ’s character in us, so that we love others as He did, sacrificially.

  1. To love God means we love people.

The Spirit within us conforms us to the image of Jesus, but many of us have living examples of God’s love and faith to help shape our lives—godly mothers!

At His Last Supper with His disciples, Jesus told them He would be leaving soon, He said, at

John 13:34-35 (NLT)“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are My disciples.”

May our love for each other prove that we live for Jesus.
