Brookwood's Newest Mission Partner in India
|
We have an amazing update from India! Pastor Praveen has taken 152 children from slavery in the rock quarries. There were 81 boys and 71 girls. The quarry owners were resistant but cooperated with government officials. No money was paid to get the children released.
Praveen sees this as a miracle only accomplished by the hand of God.
The children are now in the loving care of village pastors and families in the churches that have buildings where the children will stay. They will receive food, shelter, personal items, basic education (as none have attended school), medical care, and Christian nurture.
Brookwood has contributed $5,000 for the first month’s care for the children. We have promised to stand by Pastor Praveen and the other pastors who are helping to care for the children in the months ahead. Vision Trust will hopefully also become involved. Thank you for your generosity in helping with this mission need.
There are many hundreds more of children that Pastor Praveen hopes to see released. Pray for him as the work is overwhelming and painful as it is impossible to get all the children out at one time. Only by the grace and strength of God’s Spirit can such work be done.

Pastor Praveen in Kakinada, India is our newest mission partner. He’s is blessed with a grandfather and father who are pastors. Praveen is President of the Sylom Pastor’s League which has over 1,000 pastors. Praveen and his father have an ongoing ministry to 360 destitute children who receive food, shelter, schooling, as well as the love of Christ.
Pastor Praveen and the Sylom Pastor's League
- Start 25 new churches among Dalit untouchables at a cost of $500 a church
- Provide water wells for churches at a cost of $2,000 a well
- Help children being rescued from the streets and forced labor
- Provide transportation with a van for Praveen, evangelism team, and Jesus Film equipment.
Dalits have been taught they are impure, worthless, “untouchable” and treated as outcasts but in Christ they are of infinite value, accepted, and touchable. Here a Dalit man is baptized by Pastor Praveen.

ROCK QUARRY SLAVES: Praveen’s ministry is among the Dalits or untouchables, people considered worthless and impure by ancient Hindu teachings of caste. Dalits have very little education and are easily oppressed. They get into debt and are then forced to offer their children as slaves to pay off the debt. Praveen has been going to rock quarries, where hundreds of children work as slaves. This is against the law in India, but hasn’t been enforced. Through the influence of Praveen and his father, it appears that quarry owners will start releasing the children.
In October, Praveen expects to take an additional 150 children into his care in the children’s homes. In December, there will be 150 more. And in the months ahead hundreds more. Praveen is working with pastors to determine how to provide care for these children.

|
Brookwood, Water of Life, and Vision Trust, are working with Praveen to find a way to care for all these children and to work with the Dalits, who have been allowing their children to go as slaves. Brookwood will be paying for the cost of food for the children and has sent $5,000 for the month of October.
STARTING NEW CHURCHES: Praveen is going to villages where there has never been a church. The Brookwood partnership with Praveen also includes Water of Life. This ministry is placing water wells in villages to assist the churches and bless the entire community. Dalits are not allowed to access sources of water used by higher caste people.
GIVE: As God places this on your heart, you can give to support this work in India. Make your contribution to Brookwood Church and designate “missions India.”
