The What, Why and How of Brookwood Church

WHAT Are We Seeking to Do?

Encourage everyone to pursue a relationship with Jesus. (learn more)

Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5 (NLT)

So everyone can experience transformed life. (learn more)

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10 (ESV)

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Ephesians 3:19 (NLT)

Transformed life is evidenced by:

Loving God.

Jesus replied, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. Matthew 22:37-38 (NLT)

Loving people.

A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:39 (NLT)

Living like Jesus.

And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. 1 John 4:17 (NLT)

By Faith (learn more)

This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.” Romans 1:17 (NLT)

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Hebrews 11:6 (NLT)

1. Communicating with God. (learn more)

But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! John 15:7 (NLT)

We give communication by giving God our lives and resources, as well as praise and thanks.

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Romans 12:1 (NLT)

Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him. Psalm 95:2 (NLT)

We receive communication through the Bible and prayer.

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 (NLT)

Never stop praying. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NLT)

2. Connecting with Christians. (learn more)

For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them. Matthew 18:20 (NLT)

Engage in relationships through acceptance and gathering in groups.

Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all! Romans 12:16 (NLT)

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT)

Encourage spiritual growth by assisting with next steps and being transparent.

When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours. Romans 1:12 (NLT)

3. Caring for Others. (learn more)

And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ Matthew 25:40 (NLT)

Serve alongside others.

Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. Romans 12:4-5 (NLT)

Share what Jesus has done.

Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. 1 Peter 3:15 (NLT)

Our Values

Principles that guide our behavior:

Acceptance (learn more)

Accept people as they are and help them become who God wants them to be.
Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory. Romans 15:7 (NLT)

Assisting Growth (for all ages) (learn more)

Help each other communicate with God and become like Jesus.

He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.Ephesians 4:16 (NLT)

Authenticity (learn more)

Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.”

. Ephesians 4:15,25 (NLT)

Aiding the Community (learn more)

Show the love of Jesus in practical ways to the disadvantaged.

“Give justice to the poor and the orphan; >uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute. Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people.

Psalm 82:3-4 (NLT)
